| Jaipur Popularly known as the Pink City, Jaipur was founded by Sawai Jai Singh in 1727 AD, one of the greatest rulers of the Kachhawaha clan. Washed in Pink, Jaipur displays a remarkable harmony and architectural grandeur. The pink colour was used at the time of making to create an illusion of the red sandstone buildings of Mughal cities. It was repainted in 1876, during the visit of the Prince of Wales. City Palace is one of the major tourist attraction in Jaipur. The palace was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II and later completed by his successors. It also houses a museum that showcases the grand collection of 2000 weapons that date back to 1580. It has a good collection of various types of Rajasthani dresses a fascinating an armoury of Mughal and Rajput weapons. The Hawa Mahal was constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1799. Maharaja Jai Singh had a specific purpose behind constructing this multilayered edifice. The main purpose was that royal females, who used to follow stringent purdah system, could easily see the ceremonial processions on the streets. For this specific purpose, the building was designed in such a manner that it had 900 peepholes. Jantar Mantar is the a masterpiece of architecture situated in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur constructed 5 observatory in west central in India between 1727 to 1734. And Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is the largest of all. Jaisalmer Fort Founded by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD, Jaisalmer is situated deep in the heart of the Thar Desert and abounds with ancient palaces, temples and quaint settlements. As the sun sets, the sandstone buildings emit a lustrous glow that make Jaisalmer the "Golden City". Built in 1156 AD the Jaisalmer fort is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan after Chittaurgarh. It was founded by the Bhatti Rajput chieftain Rawal Jaisal. The fort is made of soft sandstone. The ramparts, bastions and the long-stretching walls of the fort dazzle during early morning and at sunset. Two hundred and fifty feet tall and reinforced by an imposing crenellated sandstone wall 30 feet high, it has 99 bastion, out of which 92 were built between 1633 and 1647. Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodphur Set at the edge of the Thar desert, the imperial city of Jodhpur echoes with tales of antiquity in the emptiness of the desert. Once the capital of the Marwar state it was founded in 1459 AD by Rao Jodha, chief of the Rathore clan of Rajputs who claimed to be descendants of Rama, the epic hero of the Ramayana. A splendid example of Indo-colonial and the art-deco style of the thirties, Umaid Bhawan is one of the largest and grandest private residences in the world. The palace was built by the late Maharaja Umaid Singhji between 1929 and 1943 and over 3000 artisans worked to transform the British architect H.V. Lanchester's master plan into this magnificent marble and sandstone edifice. |
| City Palace, Udaipur Popularly known as the Jewel Of Mewar, Udaipur was primarily ruled by Sisodia dynasty for 1200 years. The City Palace is the largest complex that stands magnificently in Udaipur guarded by the strong fort walls. Initially, the building was started by Maharana Jai Singh II, the city founder and later on additions were made by his successors. The palace is embellished by balconies, tower and cupolas. It is beautifully crafted and settled overlooking the Lake Pichola. Pushkar The site of a famous camel and cattle fair in November every year, Pushkar consists of a collection of temples including a Brahma temple, built around the holy Pushkar Lake. Devotees bathe in the lake on the auspicious day of Karthik Purnima every year. Mount Abu The only hill resort of Rajasthan, crowning at the highest peak of the Aravali hills at altitude of 1220 meters. Mt. Abu was dedicated to Lord Shiva before it became Jain pilgrimage center. The biggest draws for Mount Abu are the Dilwara Temples. |
