| New Delhi, the capital of India, has a hot and humid climate for most of the season. It becomes especially hot during the month of June which is followed by monsoon, ending sometime after September. The monsoon in Delhi is quite unpredictable. Delhi monsoons have never been like the ones we witness in other parts of India, say for example in Mumbai. Winter in Delhi is very chilly, beginning at the start of November and continuing until the month of February. The foggy and chilly weather during winters makes Delhi's climate a tough one to contend with. Delhi is situated on the banks of river Yamuna with the Himalayas to the north. This is the main reason behind Delhi's climate being called the "Continental Climate". Summer Season The average temperature in New Delhi during the summer ranges from 25º C to 44º C. Winter Season In comparison to the summer, winters are short. The winter Season starts around the end of November and continues to February or March. The cold waves from the Himalayan region make the winters in New Delhi very chilly. Temperatures fall substantially down to as low as 3 or 4º C at the peak of winter. Monsoon (Rainy Season): The city does not witness much of a rainy season. The monsoon lasts from July to September. October sees the end of the monsoon but it is reasonably pleasant. |
