The rupee is the currency of India and is controlled by the Reserve Bank of India. The most commonly used symbol for
the rupee is Rs. The rupee is divided into 100 paise (singular paisa). You will hardly find them or get them, there they
have almost no value.

In most parts of India, the currency is known as the rupee, it comes from the Sanskrit rupyakam, meaning (coin) of
silver. However, in West Bengal, Tripura, Orissa, and Assam, the Indian rupee is officially known by other names. For
example, as aka in Bengali, tôka in Assamese, and ôngka in Oriya.

ATM's are in every bigger city and travellers cheques are changed at most banks.

Rupees are a restricted currency, this means that  you are not allowed to bring any Rupees from abroad into the
country, if you do so they will be confiscated if found.
