Due to the mountainous terrain, a large amount of Himachal Pradesh has
no rail connection. Buses are the most used form of transport in this state.
In more remote mountainous areas jeeps can be a faster, more comfortable
alternative.
There are two main railway lines in Himachal Pradesh.  One runs from the
south via Chandigarh in Punjab and ends in Shimla. The other runs from
the west via the junction at Pathankot and  ends at Joginder Nagar near
Dharamsala.

You can find more specific transport information in the transport sections of
individual towns and areas.
