The Sangla valley is the most beautiful and romantic in Kinnaur district. The
valley is named after the picturesque and densely populated village of
Sangla. The altitude of this valley varies from 1,830 meters at the
confluence of the Baspa river with the Satluj and 3,475 meters at the
highest village of Chitkul. The valley is also known as Baspa Valley because
of the Baspa River that flows through this region for approximately 94 km.
Chitkul is the last village of the valley and beyond lies Tibet.
Verdantly forested with Deodar and the stately chilgoza (Pine), all you can
see is a belt of glorious green stretching before you. Orchards, primarily
apple, are abundant here.  Baspa valley gets a fair amount of monsoon
rains and so has very good grassy land and alpine pastures. Owing to the
excellent climate and fertile landscape, the people in this valley are fairly
rich and prosperous.
The main town in the valley is Sangla. Situated on slopes with houses one
above the other, and the Kinner Kailash Peak looming large over the
horizon, Sangla is also famous for the impressive Kamru Fort, once the
bastion of rajas of Rampur Bushehr state. High above the village on a
hillock is the Kamakshi temple, the idol of the deity was brought here from
Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.
The gushing rivers of Kinnaur abound in Trout. Their waters have over the
centuries chiseled beautiful gorges across this picturesque land and
nurtured one of the most unique societies on their banks. In the lush land
live the descendants of the Kinners, the demi gods of the Hindu pantheon,
whose deeds have been immortalized in epics and the poems of ancient
Sanskrit poets. It is no wonder that a local tradition maintains that Kinnaur
with all its beauty fell from the clouds as a gift from the gods.

There are no banks or internet facilities in the Sangla valley. Make sure you
have enough cash with you. The nearest banking facilities are in Shimla.
