| Bihar Climate |

| The climate of Bihar embodies the general climatic pattern of the Indian subcontinent. It shows a continental monsoon climate due to considerable distance from the sea. Like many northeast Indian states, Bihar's climate experiences strong influence from the Himalayan Mountains. In particular the mountains affect the distribution of monsoon rains in this tropical and subtropical land. Summer The summer begins in April and lasts until the middle of June. It is very hot in the summer (40-45 degrees). The highest temperature is often registered in May which is the hottest month in the state. Like the rest of the northern India, Bihar also experiences dust-storms, thunder-storms and dust raising winds during the hot season. Monsoon The commencement of monsoon may be as early as the last week of May or as late as the first or second week of July. The most rainfall occurs in July and August. The south-west monsoon normally withdraws from Bihar in the first week of October. An important feature of the retreating monsoon season is the invasion of tropical cyclones originating in the Bay of Bengal and the south China sea. The maximum frequency of the tropical cyclones is from September to November. These cyclones are essential for the maturing of paddy, and are required for the moistening of the soil for the cultivation of rabi crops. Winter The cold weather commences early in November and comes to an end in the middle of March. The average temperature in November varies from 19 to 22 degrees Celcius. January is the coldest month in Bihar. The minimum temperature varies from 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. When To Go The best time to visit Bihar is from October to March. |
